I wanted to describe my photoshoots to my perspective clients to help you figure out if I might be the photographer you are looking for. Typically, my photoshoots last for an hour or less, this does not include special events or newborns. I love to play with ideas, from you or Pinterest or from my own mind, so please feel free to share samples before our shoot. I love candid moments most, but how do we capture "candid" moments when the specific reason we are getting together is for photos?! Well.... You trust me! You let me ask you to do things such as, "look at each other and have a conversation about what you'll be doing tomorrow." I will pose you and capture your canvas worthy smiling photo, but in between these poses we will have fun and just be in the moments with each other!
When it comes to small children's milestones, or even small children in family photos, I have got this! I myself have three young children who I coerce smiles out of all the time. I may look silly behind the camera, I also tend to sweat after a photoshoot with toddlers and young children, but I will get your kiddos happy and smiling for more than one photo. So I get to tell the parents not to worry about their cranky toddler, and to just make sure they themselves are smiling and leave the hard work to me.
I strive to produce great quality photos, for an affordable price, because everybody deserves great photos! To help me keep my pricing down, I do not invest in a lot of props or additional camera equipment. I have an in-home studio for those photoshoots that are sensitive to weather, ie; Newborns, Children, Headshots. I am also becoming a fan of lifestyle in your home style photos, so ask me if that could be a possibility.
What to expect for your newborn photoshoot; My indoor studio is located along the river in Pasco. I have a supply of props including wraps, headbands, blankets, backdrops, baskets, and odds and ends that we can play with. I will have at least a couple ideas ready to go for you when you show up. I am open to creating an image you have loved, you just need to show me an example to help me understand. My style is more simplistic than what you might see from other photographers, it helps to keep my cost down and keeps us focused on details of your baby rather than other things. I love to include all family members in a couple shots, but I don’t want to spend too much time on these as we are primarily here for the newest member of your family. I also do not force anyone in front of the camera if that is not at all what you want, but please take my word for it, you will be happy you have photos with that itty bitty bundle you just met!
I schedule for this shoot to be 2 hours because as you may know, or have recently learned, newborns can be finicky to say the least. They sometimes don’t know when they are full, so they often need a feeding or two during our session. I have lots of space for private breastfeeding if you are worried about feeling uncomfortable with nursing outside of your home. If you are bottle feeding, I suggest bringing enough formula/pumped milk for at least 2 feedings so that we don’t find ourselves without a top off. I try not to spend more than 10-15 minutes on settling your new baby before trying a new position or try to soothe by feeding or rocking. If both mom and dad are coming, be sure both parents know that this is a long photoshoot. Sometimes father’s like to leave for a short while to go get some food or just to run a quick errand while Mom and I take photos. This is perfectly fine.
I do not have an assistant most of the times, so I do ask for a parent’s help when needed. Please do not be afraid to voice any concerns while we are taking photos, if you are uncomfortable with how I am holding your baby or placing your baby, I want to know. Your new bundle is very important to me, and I work hard to keep your baby happy and want you to feel comfortable during this shoot as well. I am a NICU trained Respiratory Therapist as my alternative job, so I am very comfortable and very experienced with handling newborn babies. Newborn photos have quickly become my favorite photos to capture!
